Happy Birthday — to my Dorothy (1977)

A family poem by Mike — faithfully transcribed and preserved.

Typed transcription

Too many of your birthdays have we shared,
Lost not, because to all of them we’ve cared,
Sharing and caring must be part of happy lives,
A philosophy that could help unhappy ones.

Too easy to forget the early years,
The selfish words and actions, and the tears,
Some memories still make us conscience-sore,
To remind us how much we all can err.

Enough of looking back, as you would say,
Anticipate another happy day.
To young maiden who became my wife,
My Dorothy—my love, my life.

When I wish a Happy Birthday to you dear,
I’m really looking forward to another happy year.
